Laura Steel

Laura Steel is a British pop and dance artist from just outside Sheffield. She writes and composes much of her own material and is closely involved in her work’s visual presentation, including designing her own artwork and shaping her personal style.

Music

Her debut release is the electro-pop single Feedback, a song she writes and composes herself. Her sound is described through electro-pop and pop influences, with a strong dancefloor emphasis and a colourful, pulsing production style. She also says she likes to vary her music, collaborate across styles, and build songs around mood, atmosphere and narrative.

Performance and recognition

Steel is a performer and songwriter who has shared stages with Pixie Lott and Diana Vickers. She performs to large audiences, with appearances to more than 250,000 people in the UK and US in 2009. Her profile is also boosted by an early “One to Watch” designation from Tiscali.

Image and background

Alongside her music, Steel develops a distinctive public image from a creatively varied background. She experiments with different looks and genres, and has walked the catwalk for stylist Jonny Blue Eyes, whose clients include Beth Ditto, Klaxons and Noisettes. In 2009 she also receives endorsement from Lipsy, becoming the first unsigned artist to be supported by the brand, and she is backed by pro-audio company Sennheiser.
