Last Train

Last Train is a French rock group formed in 2007. The band is from Altenach and Mulhouse in France, and it is based in Alsace. Its members are Jean-Noël Scherrer, Julien Peultier, Timothée Gérard and Antoine Baschung.

Band history

The group meets at school in 2007 and begins playing in local pubs. Its line-up centres on Jean-Noël Scherrer on lead vocals, guitar and keyboards, Julien Peultier on guitar, Timothée Gérard on bass and keyboards, and Antoine Baschung on drums and keyboards.

Last Train first releases the singles Cold Fever and Fire in 2014, which leads to a two-year touring period across Europe, Asia and the USA. While touring, the band releases its first EP, The Holy Family, in 2015, followed by Fragile the next year.

Albums and recordings

The band’s first album, Weathering, appears in 2017. It leads to support dates with Placebo and to a show at Le Bataclan.

Its second album, The Big Picture, is released in 2019. A documentary about the making of the record follows, directed by guitarist Julien Peultier.

In 2022, Last Train releases How Did We Get There?, a song and short film also directed by Julien Peultier.

The group later shifts further towards cinematic and orchestral rock. This direction is reflected in Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, described as a rearrangement of the song Jane with the Mulhouse Symphonic Orchestra. The album is preceded by a three-part web series about its making, again directed by Julien Peultier.

Style and activity

Last Train is described as a French stoner, psychedelic and alternative rock band. It continues to tour and had played its 500th concert by October 2022 at the Blackwoodstock festival.
