Last Seen Laughing

Last Seen Laughing is a three-piece Oi! band from Aarhus, Denmark. The group comes from the city’s long-running Oi! scene and draws on Oi!, punk and hardcore backgrounds across its members.

Formation and early years

The band starts after Kres, following the end of The Outfit, begins developing unused material and first works with his brother JP on bass under the name The Jutland Muster. After JP steps away for a period, Kres continues with other bass players and drummers, keeping the project as a minimal three-piece. JP later returns on drums, and Steen joins on bass in late 2008, at which point Last Seen Laughing forms. The group gives its debut performance in Aarhus in December 2008.

Style and influences

Last Seen Laughing describes its sound as influenced by the second wave of Oi! from the 1980s and the Oi! revival of the 1990s. Its music is described in terms of aggression, minimalism and catchy songwriting. The band also takes bits and pieces from different bands and combines them into its own style.

Members and other bands

Steen plays bass and chorus. He is also the frontman, lead singer and guitarist in The Zero Point, a long-running Danish punk band active since 1979, and he has also played drums in the hardcore band War of Destruction.

JP plays drums and chorus. He is also drummer in The Hoolies, singer in The Outfit, drummer in the 1980s punk band Dayli Kaos, and drummer in the 1990s punk band deFuldeprofeter, also known as The Drunken Prophets.

Kres plays guitar and lead vocals. He has played guitar in the 1990s hardcore band Toe Tag, bass in the 1990s hardcore band Tiny Toons, guitar in deFuldeprofeter, and guitar in both The Hoolies and The Outfit.

Recordings and reception

The song “Tæsk” becomes a notable underground track for the band and helps establish its profile in Denmark. The group also attracts interest from outside Denmark and performs in Norway, Sweden and Germany before issuing any release. Its debut album, Where We Belong, is scheduled for release on LP and CD on the German label Randale Records.
