Las Balkanieras
Las Balkanieras are a three-woman group based in Düsseldorf, Germany, with origins on the Mediterranean side of the Balkans and in Russia. They perform a style they describe as Turbo-Electro-Folk-Pop, with dancehall influences, and their music also draws on reggae, ska, melos and a trash or parody element. Versions of their songs exist in German, English, Croatian-Dalmatian-Bosnian and Russian.
Style and line-up
The group presents itself as a mix of singers, dancers and performers who also bring culinary themes into their image and presentation. Their material combines references to Balkan and Mediterranean heritage with commentary on contemporary ideas about women. They use the motto that everything can be globalised and treat themselves as “import-export” musicians.
Recordings and collaborators
Las Balkanieras work with Pionir, also known as Pionear, who is described as a leading dancehall producer and an early figure on the reggae scene in Germany. He is associated with Germaica Digital, the label connected to their producer. Their first recording, “Ćiribiribela”, is issued through Germaica and is remixed in a playful, trash-style version.
Recognition and live work
The song “Ćiribiribela” wins them the Newcomer Award at the Split festival in Croatia. They also perform at “Kontra Regula”, a memorial concert for Dino Dvornik, where they appear before a crowd of more than 14,000 people. After that, they continue performing in Croatia and elsewhere in the Balkans, while also maintaining activity in Germany and showing concert activity in France and England.
Management and wider activity
Danijela Dvornik serves as their manager for Croatia and helps arrange their work there. The group is also linked with support appearances before acts such as TBF. They are presented as working on a first album and as aiming to reach audiences across the Balkans and Europe.
