Larkin Poe

Larkin Poe is an American roots-rock band that forms in 2009 and is based in Calhoun, United States, with an earlier association with Atlanta, Georgia. The group is fronted by sisters Rebecca Lovell and Megan Lovell and is formerly known as the Lovell Sisters. Its line-up includes Rebecca Lovell, Megan Lovell, Tarka Layman, Kelly McCarty and Kevin McGowan.

Style and sound

The band works in blues rock, folk rock, indie rock and rock. Its sound combines southern harmonies with electric guitar riffs and slide guitar, and Rebecca Lovell and Megan Lovell share lead and harmony parts across guitars, mandolin, banjo, piano, lap steel and dobro.

Early releases and development

In January 2010, after the end of the Lovell Sisters, Rebecca Lovell and Megan Lovell continue the project as Larkin Poe. The first line-up also includes Knoxville-based musicians Daniel Kimbro, Chad Melton and Mike Seal. The band’s debut EP, Spring, appears in 2010.

Performances and recognition

Larkin Poe performs at Glastonbury in 2014 and 2016. After the 2014 appearance, the band is voted Best Discovery of Glastonbury 2014 by The Observer.
