Lapsley

Lapsley is the performing name of Holly Lapsley Fletcher, an English singer, songwriter and musician from York, England. She makes electronic music that also sits within alternative R&B, art pop, electropop, pop, ambient pop and downtempo, and her early work is described as minimal and mournful bedroom-produced electronica.

Early recognition and debut

She first gains attention as a teenager after uploading her self-produced tracks to SoundCloud. Her debut album, Long Way Home, is released on XL in 2016 and receives critical acclaim. The singles ‘Hurt Me’ and ‘Falling Short’ help establish her as a notable new songwriting talent. A disco edit of ‘Operator’ by DJ Koze also becomes a dancefloor track associated with her early rise.

Later work

Her second album, Through Water, marks a move from adolescence into adulthood and from an introverted bedroom-producer approach to a more confident and conscious style. Its lead single, ‘Womxn’, states her queer identity and points toward a more assured and upbeat direction. She later continues as both a writer and topliner in the music industry, including publishing deals with Young and Sony, and returns with original music on ‘32 Floors’, a song about love and obsession.
