Lake Street Dive
Lake Street Dive are an American band formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 2004. They begin at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where the original members meet as students: Rachael Price on lead vocals, Mike “McDuck” Olson on trumpet and guitar, Bridget Kearney on upright bass, and Mike Calabrese on drums.
The group takes its name from a street of dive bars in Olson’s hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Olson, who comes from Minneapolis and has the nickname “McDuck”, helps shape the band after meeting the other members at the conservatory. Price comes from outside Nashville, Tennessee, Kearney is from Iowa, and Calabrese is from Philadelphia.
Akie Bermiss joins the band on keyboards on tour in 2017 and appears on the 2018 album. The band is associated with soul, jazz, swing, and indie, and is identified with female vocalists through Price’s lead role. Early rehearsals are described as informal gatherings rather than conventional practice sessions.
