Laish
Laish is a British folk rock band led by songwriter, guitarist and singer Danny Green. The group is based in London and forms in Brighton in 2008. It is an active project and performs in varying line-ups, with Danny Green as its only listed member.
Style and name
The band plays folk, with a folk rock approach. The name is pronounced “lie-sh”. Its songs are associated with acoustic arrangements, harmony-led writing and a mix of melancholy and lighter melodic touches.
Albums and recordings
Laish releases its self-titled debut album in 2010 on Willkommen Records. The album is recorded at Green’s home. The second album, Obituaries, is also recorded at Green’s home and appears on Folkwit Records. Pendulum Swing follows in 2016, and Time Elastic is released on Talitres in 2018.
Live activity and reception
The band tours across the UK and Europe and moves from smaller appearances to headlining larger shows. It supports acts including Sons of Noel & Adrian, Peggy Sue, David Thomas Broughton, Grizzly Bear and Beach House at the Roundhouse. Laish also plays the main stage at the first No Direction Home Festival and appears at The Big Chill Festival, Burning Eagle Festival and Willkommen Foxtrot Festival.
Related project
In 2019, Danny Green begins a separate band called DG Solaris.
