Kyoto Jazz Massive

Kyoto Jazz Massive is a Japanese group from Kyoto, active since 1991. It consists of the brothers 沖野修也 and 沖野好洋, also known as Okino Shuya and Okino Yoshihiro. The project works across acid jazz, jazz, broken beat and electronic styles, and is associated with jazz crossover music in Japan.

Career

The brothers have DJed since the late 1980s and begin remixing and composing in the early 1990s. They form Kyoto Jazz Massive as a DJ unit in the early 1990s and help build a Japanese jazz crossover scene, while also developing an overseas following.

Their first production is the compilation CD Kyoto Jazz Massive V.A, released in 1994. In 2000 they sign with Compost Records in Germany and release their first single for the label, Eclipse / Silent Messenger. That track reaches first place on the BBC Radio One chart. Later the same year they release Substream.

Albums and recordings

In 2002, Kyoto Jazz Massive releases its first album, Spirit Of The Sun. The group also issues a steady stream of remixes, which helps establish its reputation as producers.

Live activity

As DJs, they perform regularly in Japan and internationally, including in England, Germany, Italy, France and the United States.
