Kyla

Kyla is the stage name of Melanie Hernandez Calumpad, a Filipino singer born in Manila in 1981. She is known for work in ballad, contemporary R&B, OPM, pop and pop soul, and is described as a Filipino R&B singer. Her recording career includes six mainstream albums, and she is noted for songs such as “Because Of You” and “Someone To Love”. She is also known as the “R&B Princess of the Philippines”.

She records a duet with Jay-R on a cover of Christian Bautista’s “Say That You Love Me”. In 2001, she wins an MTV Asia Award. She also works as a host and performer on a Philippine television programme on the GMA Network.

The name Kyla also refers to other artists, including Kim Carlsson’s Swedish one-man project and a UK-based funky house act.
