Kutmah

Kutmah is a UK-born beats artist and DJ known for his role in the Los Angeles underground music scene. Born Justin McNulty in Brighton, England, he is of Egyptian and Scottish parentage. He moves to the United States at the age of twelve and grows up in Hollywood, California.

He becomes associated with the Los Angeles collective Dublab and, in 2004, launches Sketchbook, a club night that helps shape the early LA beat scene. His work sits within beats and instrumental music, with links to electronic and hip-hop culture.

In 2010 he is detained by US federal agents on immigration charges, held in a New Mexico detention centre, and later deported to the UK, where he lives. After that, he tours Europe and performs with artists including Saul Williams, The Gaslamp Killer, Flying Lotus, Gonjasufi and Dabrye.
