Kushti

Kushti is a side project associated with Plaid, credited here to Ed Handley and Andrew Turner. The project works in sample-based electronic music and sits apart from Plaid’s better known electronic style.

Releases

Kushti debuts with the Freestyle EP on Octopus in 1995. The project then issues a small run of EPs, including Lifers in 1996 and Taking Hold in 1999. It also releases the album Secret Handshakes, from which the single Taking Hold is drawn.

Remixes

Alongside its own releases, Kushti provides remixes for other artists. These include the “Drop Tha' Joint” remix for Paul Hunter, which samples Method Man and appears on the Further Thoughts and Freedoms EP on Soma offshoot Fith Freedom in 1996, and a remix of “Jack” by Statik Sound System, issued on Cup of Tea Records in Bristol in 1997.

Style

The project is associated with downtempo, trip-hop, lounge, electronica and IDM, with a focus on eclectic, sample-led production.
