Kumpania Algazarra

Kumpania Algazarra is a group from Sintra, Portugal, active since 2004. It begins as a street performance project, with the aim of playing outdoors and bringing music, amusement and energy to passers-by. As its performances attract attention, it also moves onto stage shows.

Style and influences

The group draws on a wide range of traditional and popular influences, including klezmer, Balkan music, Portuguese music and African music, and brings these elements together in a festive, dance-oriented sound. Its music is associated with ska, Gypsy and world music influences, and it is described as an energetic, animated live act.
