Kublai Khan TX
Kublai Khan TX is a metalcore and beatdown hardcore group from Sherman, Texas, in the United States. The band forms in 2009 and is active from 2009 to the present. It is also known as Kublai Khan, its earlier name.
Style and line-up
The band’s sound sits within beatdown hardcore, groove metal and metalcore. It draws on the early 1990s metallic hardcore tradition associated with bands such as Integrity, Earth Crisis, All Out War and Hatebreed. Its music uses heavy, slow breakdowns, heavily downtuned guitars, including 7-string guitars tuned to drop G#, and raspy vocals. Matt Honeycutt is a member of the group.
Releases and label history
Kublai Khan TX self-releases its first EP, Youth War, in 2010. In February 2014, the band signs to Artery Recordings and later releases its debut full-length album, Balancing Survival and Happiness. That album appears in Alternative Press’s list of the best albums of 2014 so far. The group then releases its second full-length album, New Strength, in 2015.
In July 2017, the band signs to Rise Records and releases its third full-length album, Nomad, later that year. The group has released four full-length albums in total.
