Komon is the solo project of Swedish-born Antonia Pehrson. She has recorded under this name since 2001, beginning after she buys a GEM Wizard electric organ.

Sound and style

Komon’s music is electronic, vocal and emotional. Early recordings are inspired by organ-based bands. Pehrson later becomes interested in c86, twee and indie pop, and the purchase of an electric guitar and a cheap effects pedal gives Komon the guitar sound that appears on most of the songs. As her knowledge of computer-based programming grows, she produces more intricate beats than on the first recordings, which use standard Casio drum patterns. She continues to sample the Casio sounds on recordings from 2007.

Releases

Komon releases a number of small-format records on independent labels. In 2001, Dance Shool appears as a six-track cassette on Pay Your Own Funeral-Records. In 2004, -Is Common in Japan is issued as an 11-track CD-R on the same label, followed in 2005 by the four-track CD-R EP Silly Girl.

In 2006, Komon contributes one track to This Is Love, a various-artists CD-R release on Dig Your Own Grave-Records that also features Bare Knees, Don Agbai, Otur, Mexicos and others, and includes a cover of Haddaway’s What Is Love. In 2007, Cloudberry Records issues the three-track 3-inch CD Punk EP in a run of 100 copies, with the tracks “I Made New Friends”, “A Good Start” and “Canadian Punkerboy”. In 2008, Pay Your Own Funeral-Records releases Punk EP + as a four-track CD-R in 50 copies, adding “What Happened to The Punk?” to the earlier three tracks.
