Kodiak

Kodiak is a drone doom metal group from Montréal, Quebec, active since 2004 and associated with Indica Records. It is one of several acts using the same name, but this entry refers to the Montréal group.

Style and formation

The group performs as a three-piece funeral drone and doom metal band. Its music sits within drone, doom metal, drone doom and ambient territory, with the funeral-drone description indicating especially slow, heavy and sustained arrangements.

Recordings and releases

In May 2008, Kodiak releases a two-song CDR through Denovali Records. The release sells out within two months. In February 2009, the group issues its debut LP with Denovali Records. Later in 2009, it follows this with a split LP shared with Black Shape Of Nexus, released on Denovali Records and Roadburn Records.

Live activity

From May 2008 onward, Kodiak shares stages with Amen Ra, Black Shape Of Nexus, Caspian and Monarch. These appearances place the group within the broader European heavy drone and doom circuit.
