Knights of Mentis

Knights of Mentis is a multi-instrumental group whose members come together from a range of musical backgrounds through shared musical connections and informal jam sessions. The band builds its sound around folk, roots, American string band music and rhythm and blues, and performs a blend of Americana, country, folk and roots influences.

Line-up

The group comprises Peter Graham on guitar and vocals, Jed Dale on dobro, Weissenborn and vocals, Keith Birnie on banjo and vocals, Francis Leneghan on mandolin, Jeremy Bourgein on keyboards and accordion, Malachy O’Neill on double bass, Matt Walsh on drums, Sally Baden on fiddle, and Simon Baker on harmonica.

Style and influences

Their music draws on artists such as Gillian Welch, Old Crow Medicine Show and The Band, while also reflecting influences from British rock groups including Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Peter Graham, Jed Dale and Keith Birnie share lead vocals, and their songs feature lyrics based on personal observations and experiences, delivered in three-part harmony.
