Klute is the recording name of Tom Withers, a drum and bass artist from London, United Kingdom. He is active in drum and bass and liquid funk, and is associated with the label Commercial Suicide.

Career

Withers has been a fixture on the drum and bass scene for more than fifteen years and works with labels including Hospital Records, 31 Records, Metalheadz and Certificate 18. His first two albums, Casual Bodies and Fear of People, are released through Certificate 18.

Before his electronic work, he fronts the skate-punk band The Stupids, which gives an early background to his later style and range.

Commercial Suicide

In 2001, Withers founds his own label, Commercial Suicide, to control his releases and to provide support for new producers. The label issues recordings by Klute, Calibre, Total Science, Digital, Amit, Break and Silent Witness.

He releases three double albums on Commercial Suicide: Lie, Cheat & Steal, paired with You Should Be Ashamed; No One's Listening Anymore; and The Emperor's New Clothes. The last of these includes tracks such as “The Struggle”, “Never Never” and “174 BPM”.
