Klubbheads

Klubbheads are a dance music group from Rotterdam, Netherlands, made up of Jan Voermans, Koen Groeneveld and Addy van der Zwaan. The group begins in the 1990s, when Groeneveld and van der Zwaan first work together on the Turn Up The Bass series of commercial mixes. They later meet Voermans in 1995 and form the trio under the Klubbheads name.

Aliases and related projects

The group uses a large number of aliases for recordings, including Da Techno Bohemian, Rollercoaster, DJ Disco, Hi_Tack, Drunkenmunky and The Caramel Club. Groeneveld is also known as IttyBitty, van der Zwaan as DJ BoozyWoozy, and Voermans as Greatski.

Record labels and releases

The trio create Blue Records as a sublabel of Mid-Town Records in order to release their work as Klubbheads. After later leaving Blue Records, they found the label Digidance. Groeneveld and van der Zwaan also continue to work together through the label Unit 54, while Voermans remains with Digidance.

Chart success and productions

Klubbheads first break into the mainstream in 1996 with “Klubbhopping”, which reaches number 10 on the UK Singles Chart. They follow this with “Discohopping” in 1997, which reaches number 35, and “Kickin’ Hard” in 1998, which reaches number 36. In 1999 they co-produce DJ Jean’s “The Launch”, which reaches number 2 in the UK. Under the Drunkenmunky name, they reach the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart in 2003 with “E”, a track that samples Eminem’s “Without Me”; in some countries it appears as “E (As In Evangeline)” without that sampling. They also release “Yeah!”, which samples Usher’s “Yeah!”.

Hi-Tack and later work

As Hi_Tack, they release a version of “Say Say Say” in 2006, retitled “Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U)”, and the track reaches number 4 in the UK Singles Chart. It also enters the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart in the United States. They also remix Filter Funk’s cover of the Police song “Message in a Bottle”.

Partnership changes

Voermans ends the partnership in spring 2005 after ten years of collaboration. Groeneveld and van der Zwaan continue working together after that point.
