Kllo
Kllo is an Australian electronic group from Melbourne, active since 2014. It is a collaboration between cousins Chloe Kaul and Simon Lam, and the project works across dance, indie pop and R&B, with influences including UK garage and 2-step.
Career
The act first emerges in 2014 with a sound that is described as fully formed, combining modern production with a direct emotional style. Its first two EPs, Cusp and Well Worn, both gain large streaming audiences and help establish Kllo on festival bills in Australia and Europe, including Bigsound, Splendour in the Grass, The Great Escape and Primavera Sound.
Kllo also attracts attention from outlets including BBC Radio 1, Spotify, Elle and VICE, which describes the act as poised to “very politely take over the world.”
Backwater
The full-length debut, Backwater, follows in 2017 and appears on Ghostly International, making it the duo’s second release on the label. The album is developed partly while travelling and partly back in Melbourne at Lam’s bungalow. Its songs deal with being away from home, adjustment, and the tension between familiar and unfamiliar surroundings. The record gives more space to the interplay between Kaul’s smoky vocals and Lam’s production, which is marked by brooding low-end textures and gradual crescendos.
