Kito

Kito is an Australian dubstep producer and recording name used by Maaike Lebbing. Her music is marked by a pop-infused, clean production style, and she first appears in 2009, when her completed tracks are picked up by Skream and released on his Disfigured Dubz label.

Releases and collaborations

She releases a self-titled 12-inch and four-track EP on Disfigured Dubz, which brings her wider attention. Kito then works with vocalist and long-term friend Reija Lee on the four-track Sweet Talk EP, issued on Mad Decent. The title track gains support on BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra and Triple J, and reaches number two on the Dubstep Beatport chart for several weeks. Kito later continues the partnership with Reija Lee by remixing Spor’s track “Pacifica”, released on Lifted, and the Pacifica EP reaches number seven on the iTunes Electronic Dance chart.

Reception and profile

Her work receives support from a number of DJs and producers, and her back catalogue attracts attention from publications including The Guardian, NME, Knowledge and In The Mix. She also appears in guest mixes on Radio 1, Triple J and Rinse FM.

Additional note

A separate recording name, Kito, is also used by Kjell Tore Sandersen, a musician from Porsgrunn, Norway, with one track on the 2009 compilation maskindans - Norsk synth 1980-1988 on Hommage Records.
