Kite

Kite is a synth-pop group from Malmö, Sweden, active since 2008. The duo forms around Christian Berg and Nicklas Stenemo. Berg previously plays with Yvonne and Strip Music, while Stenemo comes from The Mo and Melody Club.

Formation and style

The project begins when Berg asks Stenemo to sing on one of his instrumental tracks. After a demo of “My Girl and I” is completed, the two start writing together every day in Stenemo’s studio. Berg’s interest in monotone synthesizer lines combines with Stenemo’s pop-oriented writing, and the band develops from that session-based collaboration. Stenemo later sells his Fender guitar, and Kite emerges as a band.

Releases and label work

One of the first documented releases is a four-track vinyl on the label Lyckan. The group’s output is rooted in synth-pop and electronic pop, with the Malmö origin and the Berg/Stenemo partnership central to its identity.
