Kissy Sell Out

Kissy Sell Out is a DJ, producer and graphic designer from Huntingdon, United Kingdom. Born in 1984, he develops an electro and house-oriented sound and is associated with British electronic music.

Background

He begins as a guitarist at the age of 11 and starts DJing at 13, after moving from an interest in Nirvana to dance music when he hears an acid house mix CD. He studies graphic design at Central Saint Martin’s, and that training becomes part of his wider work as both a music-maker and visual designer.

After a period in a mainstream electro-pop band, he leaves to work under the Kissy Sell Out name and focus on his own direction. He also creates the San City High project and imprint, which combines his music and design work and operates from his bedroom, with artists from around the world signing up to it.

Style and influences

His early reputation comes in 2006 through eccentric electro productions and an energetic DJ style. His influences include Sonic Youth, Scritti Politti, Swans, Aphrodite, Mickey Finn’s late 1990s drum and bass, DFA, Headman and early Daft Punk.

Reception

In 2009, Mixmag describes him as one of the most exciting, charismatic and entertaining DJs of the decade.
