King Mo

King Mo is a blues rock group from the Netherlands, active since 2008. The band plays soulful blues with a rock edge and performs original material as well as arrangements of songs by Freddie King and Ian Siegal.

Releases and recognition

The band’s third CD, King Of The Town, is part of its recorded output. King Mo receives three Dutch Blues Awards nominations and wins CD of the Year twice.

Performances and label work

King Mo appears at venues and festivals including BB King’s Blues Club in Memphis and Ribs & Blues in Raalte. The group also has a recording contract with Grooveyard Records in the United States.

Line-up

Jules van Bussel is the named member of the group. The band’s earlier line-up includes guitarist Sjors Nederlof, who is described as a left-handed player and a nominated candidate for Best Blues Guitarist in the Netherlands; he tours extensively with Coup de Grace and The Strikes and records and tours with Tino Gonzales. Singer Phil Bee, also nominated for Best Blues Singer in the Netherlands, performs and tours with Noel Redding, Jan Akkerman, Steve Lukather and Ana Popovic, and previously records two CDs with Phil Bee and the Buzztones on the independent Inbetweens label. Hammond player Colly Franssen has played with Jan Akkerman, Bertus Borgers and Arno Adams, and uses a 1963 Hammond C3 as part of the band’s sound. Bassist Roelof Klijn joins in February 2011 after touring with Sjors in Coup de Grace and The Strikes. Drummer Andreas Robbie Carree joins in December 2011; he studies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and tours in the United States and Europe with Eelco Gelling, Mr. Boogie Woogie, Simon Rigter, Taildragger, Grams & Krieger, Nico Wayne Toussaint and Jerry Portnoy. He replaces Henk Punter, who has played and recorded with Memo Gonzales, Monti Amunson, Lazy Lester and T-99.
