King Jammy
King Jammy is the recording name of Lloyd James, a Jamaican reggae producer born in Kingston, Jamaica. He is also known as Prince Jammy. He begins his career as a protégé of dub producer King Tubby and, in his early years, works almost exclusively in dub.
Dancehall and digital production
During the 1980s, he becomes one of the most influential producers in dancehall music. His best-known production is Wayne Smith’s “(Under Me) Sleng Teng”, which features an entirely digital rhythm hook. The track is widely credited with helping establish the first digital rhythm in reggae and with pointing towards the modern dancehall era.
