Kimmortal is a Vancouver-based queer non-binary Filipinx rapper and artist. Their work spans contemporary R&B, hip hop, R&B and soul, and it also draws on spoken word and electronic elements. They are described as a Vancouver BC rapper and are based in Vancouver on the unceded Coast Salish territories.

Music and style

Kimmortal’s approach to music is multi-dimensional, combining rap with spoken word and electronic production. Their album X marks the Swirl is an alt-rap and soul record that also uses field recordings of water. They create the album over a five-year process.

Recognition and performances

X marks the Swirl is longlisted for the Polaris Music Prize, is named among CBC’s top 19 albums of 2019, and is nominated in the 2020 Hip Hop and Rap category at the Breakout West Music Awards. Kimmortal opens for artists including Shad K, Ruby Ibarra, Saba, Bif Naked, Saul Williams and Gabriel Teodros.

They also perform at SXSW, Junofest, Rifflandia and NXNE, and headline the Winnipeg Pride Festival.
