Kim Richey
Kim Richey is an American singer-songwriter from Zanesville, Ohio. Her work sits mainly within country and folk, though it is also associated with Americana and has elements that cross into pop.
Career
Richey’s self-titled debut album appears in 1995 and brings her first country hit, “Just My Luck”, followed by “Those Words We Said”. Her second album, Bitter Sweet from 1996, takes a more pop-oriented direction. Her songs appear on both country and pop charts, and her style is described as difficult to place within a single genre.
She continues to record and release music through Lojinx. Her albums include Edgeland and A Long Way Back: The Songs of Glimmer, the latter of which presents new acoustic versions of the 14 songs from her 1999 album Glimmer. In addition to her own recordings, she provides backing vocals on Ryan Adams’s “Come Pick Me Up” from the album Heartbreaker.
Songwriting and collaborations
Richey has a notable reputation as a songwriter for other artists. She co-writes “Nobody Wins” with Radney Foster and co-writes Trisha Yearwood’s hit “Believe Me Baby (I Lied)”. Yearwood also records Richey’s “Those Words We Said”. Other artists who record her songs include Maura O’Connell, Brooks & Dunn, Patty Loveless, Mindy McCready, The Greencards, Terri Clark and Cyndi Thomson.
Other appearances
Her song “A Place Called Home” appears in an episode of Angel and later on the Live Fast Die Never soundtrack. She also performs at Live Earth in Washington in 2007.
