Killsonik
Killsonik is a UK-based dubstep duo made up of Joe Erskine and Luca Gulotta. The pair are also known as London-based producers and are associated with alternative metal, alternative rock, dubstep, electronic, electronic rock and nu metal.
Formation and early releases
Before working as Killsonik, Erskine and Gulotta are part of Chasing Shadows. They begin releasing original material in 2009 on Hench, with early tracks including “Dr Sin”, “The End”, “ill” and “Amirah”. These releases gain support from figures across bass music, including Skream, Plastician, Pendulum, Chase & Status and Mary Anne Hobbs.
Recordings and label work
In mid-2011, Killsonik sign exclusively to MTA Records. Their first release on the label is a remix of Nero’s “Crush On You”, which receives first play on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show and attracts over a million YouTube views in its first week online. They also remix Damien Marley’s “It Was Written”, which passes 10 million YouTube views across two uploads.
Their first original release features two contrasting tracks: “Bloodlust”, described as dark and aggressive, and “Girly”, which draws on garage. Both tracks receive play from Radio 1 DJs including Zane Lowe, Skream and Benga.
Film, television and games
Killsonik’s music appears in a number of mainstream media projects. “Odyssey” is used in Universal Pictures’ Battleship, and “Typhoon”, a collaboration with Foreign Beggars, is used in the remake of Total Recall. They also write tracks for the Xbox racing game Forza 4 and have a track featured on CSI: Miami.
Remixes and live work
The duo continue with a series of remixes, including Chase & Status’s “Flashing Lights”, Calvin Harris and Example’s “We’ll Be Coming Back”, Linkin Park’s “Lost in the Echo” and Sub Focus’s “Tidal Wave”. They support Nero on their Second Reality live tour in March 2012.
International shows
Killsonik perform in a range of countries, including Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Russia and Canada, alongside other international dates.
