Kids Love Lies
Kids Love Lies is an indie-pop group formed in London in 2007. The original lineup consists of Ellen Murphy on vocals, Matty Saywell and Leigh Harrison on guitars, Claudia Mansaray on bass and Raf Singer on drums. Will Jones replaces Raf Singer on drums in January 2010.
Releases and reception
The band’s first signed release is Count In My Head, which appears in April 2009 on Cherryade Records. It is named BBC Kent Introducing Single of the Week, featured in Artrocker Magazine, recommended by critic Everett True and included in an NME top ten track list. The follow-up single, Under The Bed, is released in October 2009. Its video pays homage to 1980s B-movies and David Lynch films. The track is named Track of the Day on The Times Online, a Pick of the Month in Who’s Jack Magazine, Single of the Month in Artrocker Magazine and Record of the Week on BBC Kent Introducing. The Times Online describes the band as delivering power pop with lyrics and hooks, while Altsounds highlights its frenetic guitars, bassline, percussion and Ellen Murphy’s vocals.
EP and split
The group’s self-released EP appears in June 2010, with the title track described by Artrocker as hyper-speed indie rock. The EP launch takes place at the Heavenly Social in central London. The band splits in July 2010 after creative differences. After the split, Ellen Murphy continues as a solo artist under the name OnlyGirl. Matty Saywell later becomes a member of Radials, and Will Jones works as a session drummer.
