Kid606
Kid606 is the stage name of Miguel Trost De Pedro, an electronic musician born in 1979 and associated with Caracas and the United States. He is raised in San Diego and later moves to San Francisco. His work is linked to breakcore, IDM, glitch, hardcore techno and electronica, and he is also connected to experimental electronic music.
Style and influences
His music is known for fast breakbeats, heavy use of noise and sampling, and a punk approach to genre-mixing. He is linked to the glitch, IDM, hardcore techno and breakcore scenes, and his work is compared with artists such as Lesser, Atari Teenage Riot, Autechre, Mr. Oizo and Matmos. He draws inspiration less from his electronic peers than from industrial music, death metal and industrial metal from the 1980s and 1990s, especially Godflesh and Napalm Death. He also makes quieter, more ambient and glitch-based tracks.
Releases and projects
Among his notable releases are Don't Sweat the Technics, Down with the Scene, P.S. I Love You and Kill Sound Before Sound Kills You. The track “Parenthood” from Kill Sound Before Sound Kills You is one of the more serious examples of his work, and P.S. I Love You is also noted for its ambient and glitch material.
Collaborations and group work
He collaborates or participates in Flossin, Spacewurm, Ariel and Disc. He also forms a band called Kid606 and Friends with a drummer and guitarist. He is associated with the label Tigerbeat6.
