K.I.D
K.I.D is a Canadian indie rock group from Toronto, centred on Kara Lane. The act forms in 2014 and also includes Bobby Lo in its earlier line-up. Its sound sits within rock and indie rock, and the band comes out of the Toronto and Mississauga music scene.
Formation and early performances
Kara Lane and Bobby Lo first develop the project while they are at high school, turning shared ideas about cravings and desire into songs. They perform in Toronto at open mic nights such as Elvis Mondays, and also play at Mediterranean restaurants before Lane becomes the front person, supported by her vocal range and stage presence.
Recordings and releases
The band releases its debut EP, K.I.D, in 2014 on Virgin Records Canada, a subsidiary of Universal Music Canada. The release includes the first single, I Wish I was your Cigarette. In 2016, K.I.D signs to Columbia Records for all territories outside Canada and issues a series of singles through the label, including Errors, which is presented as the band’s debut single there. The video for that song is directed by Nadia Lee Cohen.
Management
K.I.D is managed by Merck Mercuriadis of Hipgnosis Music Ltd., the publisher and record label based in London and Los Angeles.
