Khushi is the recording name of UK singer-songwriter Kalim Patel. Of half Indian and English descent, he releases music as a solo artist and is also associated with Strong Asian Mothers.

Career

Khushi begins releasing early tracks in 2013 and 2014, and he draws attention from publications including FADER, Interview Magazine and Paste. He then spends a period working largely behind the scenes before returning with a run of singles in 2019 that lead into his debut album at the start of 2020. The album is produced and performed by Khushi himself.

Collaborations and live work

The album is mixed by James Blake, whom Khushi supports on tour in the United States. Khushi also contributes production to several tracks on Blake’s album Assume Form.

Sound

His music sits within indie rock and is also tagged with dream pop, indie, chamber pop and British indie pop. It is described as drawing on the lineage of UK alternative and electronic acts such as Radiohead and Massive Attack, combining intimate details with larger, cinematic sound.
