KhakiKid

KhakiKid is a Dublin rapper, also known as Abdu Huss. He comes from a working-class household and describes his background as Irish-Libyan, which shapes much of his writing and perspective. He starts writing music at 12, first developing an interest in lyricism and technical rap skill through UK grime and US hip hop.

His early influences include artists associated with Channel U such as Chip and Skepta, alongside 50 Cent and Eminem. He later draws inspiration from the Tumblr and SoundCloud era, including XXXTENTACION, Tyler, the Creator and Mac Miller. Before returning fully to music, he steps away from rap to pursue basketball and receives a scholarship opportunity in Los Angeles, but decides to focus on music again after seeing the level of competition.

Back in Dublin, he begins sharing tracks online and recording with inexpensive equipment. His debut single, “Late”, appears in 2021 and introduces a jazz-influenced hip hop style shaped by artists such as Anderson .Paak and Mac Miller. Subsequent tracks including “Shlumped Up” and “Cozy” lead into his debut EP Sports & Tattoos, which combines introspection with playful storytelling.

KhakiKid later adopts his natural Irish accent more fully in his music, influenced by groups such as Kneecap. This change adds a more distinctive character to his delivery. On later projects including san bebé and Moanbag, he broadens his sound further, moving across alt-rap, rock, house and electronica while writing about relationships, heartbreak and self-reflection. Tracks such as “Boy Racer” and “Date Nite” show a more melodic approach and confident songwriting. His project Girl Bites Dog continues this mix of alt-rap, punk energy, wit and vulnerability.
