Ken Evil
Ken Evil is a DJ, promoter and producer from Croydon in South London. He is closely associated with the spread of dubstep in Manchester through Bass Camp, a club night he starts in November 2004. Bass Camp gives early Manchester bookings to artists including Skream, Loefah, Sgt Pokes, N-Type, Rusko, Kromestar, Hijak, Pinch, Mungo's Hi-Fi and Truth. It also, together with Leeds event Exodus, hosts the first UK showcase night for Mala of Digital Mystikz and Deep Medi Musik.
Early DJ work
He begins DJing drum and bass at free parties across the north of England in 1999. He later develops his style as part of the drum and bass collective Rollin' Flava at parties in Madrid, Spain. After returning to the UK, he starts including UK garage in his sets and follows its development into grime, breakstep and dubstep.
Radio and club work
From 2006 he appears regularly on London's React FM alongside MC Point Blank. He also presents on the Drum Music show on Unity Radio in Manchester. His sets combine dubstep with UK funky and other bass-heavy genres.
Events and residencies
Ken Evil plays at a number of major events and venues, including Outlook Festival in Croatia in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, Subdub in Leeds, Creamfields in 2009 and 2010, and regular dates at the Warehouse Project. He also holds residencies at Manchester events including Religion, Drum Music and Ape. One of his sets at Ape takes place to a crowd of more than 3,000 people at Manchester Apollo in January 2010.
Associated names
He works alongside Subliminal, who runs Subsonik Records and is a regular host of choice. Ken Evil also appears in connection with his Soundcloud mixes and with Bass Camp-related online pages and social media pages for bookings and event news.
