Kayper
Kayper is a DJ and producer from Croydon, England. She teaches herself to DJ on tape decks at the age of seven and later becomes known for moving between club sets, festival performances and branded events, with work across both mainstream and underground dance and urban music scenes.
DJ career
Kayper wins the Vestax Juice DJ Competition in 2004, becoming the first female winner of the contest. Her DJ work leads to residencies and headline sets at clubs including Ministry of Sound in London, SOB’s in New York City, Emerson Theatre and Greystone Manor in Los Angeles, and Paris Club, Tao, Hyde and Marquee in Las Vegas. She also holds a regular residency at LIV in Miami, where she is the only British DJ with that kind of residency apart from Calvin Harris. She is the only DJ to headline the Fontainebleau Party alongside Drake for New Year’s Eve 2013.
She receives the award for best club DJ at the London Club Awards in 2012. Her performances include appearances at events and festivals such as the Cannes Film Festival, Sundance Festival, Neon Carnival at Coachella, Lollapalooza and SXSW, as well as fashion and brand events for Samsung, Carrera, Absolute Elyx and Salvatore Ferragamo. She also works as a tour support DJ for artists including Pete Rock, Pharoahe Monch, Ghostface of Wu-Tang Clan, Guru of Gang Starr, Common and Angel Haze.
Production and releases
Kayper makes her debut as a producer through a collaboration with dubstep collective Engine Earz on the track “Gimme Some”, which is co-signed by Diplo and released on his label Mad Decent in 2011. She later releases the single “Magic Faces”, which attracts attention from BBC 6 Music, BBC 1Xtra, Hypetrack and Hunger Magazine. She also releases “Out My Mind” on Main Course Records.
Recognition
Her work draws support from artists including Afrojack, Drake, Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow, and she builds a reputation across both club and festival settings as a UK DJ with international bookings.
