Kayanites

Kayanites are a UK roots reggae and dub group. They develop out of an earlier line-up and name, Celtic Rasta, after a reshuffle that brings in new musicians. The band centres on the vocals and harmonies of identical twin brothers Eddie and Sean, who have Caribbean Carriacou and Scottish family background, together with their brother Ion and the rest of the group.

Style and lineup

The band performs self-written material and is described as a five-piece. Its sound is rooted in UK roots reggae, with dub also identified as part of its style.

Performances and releases

Kayanites appear at a number of UK festivals, including Boomtown, Beatherder, Shambala and Sunrise. They also support artists such as Freddie McGregor, Dawn Penn and Zion Train, and perform alongside King Earthquake Sound System in Paris to audiences of more than 1,000 people. Their own shows take them across the UK, including dates in London, Bristol, Leicester, Harlow, Southampton and Scotland.

The group releases music with Ras Muffett on the Roots Injection label, and also puts out a teaser EP while working in the studio on new material. Single videos reach nearly 30,000 views, and the band receives support from Sir David Rodigan.
