KAVARI
KAVARI is the professional name of Cameron Winters, a British electronic artist and DJ based in Glasgow. She is born in Birkenhead and moves to the Highlands of Scotland in early childhood. Her work spans ambient, dark ambient, deconstructed club, drone, EDM and noise, and it also draws on techno, experimental, dubstep, industrial and club music.
Background and performance work
KAVARI begins performing in her late teens at club nights and raves in and around Scotland. She also organises some of these events, citing the lack of diversity in her local music scene as a reason for doing so. She is associated with the UK electronic underground and is known for live performances that combine industrial, ambient, club and noise elements.
Style and collaborations
Her music is characterised by abrasive textures, atmospheric soundscapes and an emphasis on emotional expression. She presents her work as a rejection of mainstream electronic music conventions and a commitment to constant reinvention. KAVARI has collaborated with other artists and contributes to works by Yeule, REZZ and TAAHLIAH.
Recognition and influences
She is described as “The Priestess of the Underground”, and her work receives praise from Aphex Twin, who calls it some of the most interesting electronic music to emerge in recent years. Her influences include Skrillex, Genesis P-Orridge, Lorn and Arca.
