Kate Martin
Kate Martin is an Australian singer-songwriter from Townsville. She grows up in a musical family, with working jazz musician parents, and begins making music at an early age. By the age of three, she teaches herself piano by copying music heard on television, including theme tunes and advertising jingles. She then learns other instruments by herself and sings along to everything she hears.
At 12, Martin performs regularly in her father’s band, singing jazz standards in bars. By 14, she is writing and performing her own folk-pop as a solo artist. At 17, she supports acts including Little Birdy, Hungry Kids of Hungary and The Middle East.
Martin’s first album is recorded in Sydney with Michael Carpenter at Love Hz Studios. The record brings together jazz, country folk associated with her home town, and pop influences she has absorbed from an early age, and it presents ten songs that show her range as a singer and multi-instrumentalist.
