Katapulto

Katapulto is the solo music project of Wojtek Rusin. The project works in experimental, new wave, electronic, IDM and synthpop territory, and combines deadpan lyrics with quasi-danceable beats and melodic writing. Its sound is characterised by sharp contrasts: dry electronics sit alongside raw, sometimes folk-derived instruments such as whistle and Greek bouzouki mandolin, giving the music a deliberately layered and unusual tone.

Style and live presentation

Katapulto also makes surreal experimental videos that function as visual material for live performances. These shows are described through chaotic energy, keyboard riffs and distorted vocals, creating an audio-visual performance style built around tension and theatrical excess.

Performances and collaborations

Katapulto plays international festivals and performs alongside a range of artists from experimental and independent music. Appearances include Venn festival in Bristol in 2008 and the Um International Festival of Experimental Intermedia in Lisbon in 2009. He has also gigged with Felix Kubin, Micachu, Ariel Pink, Janek Schaefer, Infinite Livez, Man from Uranus, DJ Scotch Egg, DJ Sniff and Zun Zun Egui.

Katapulto’s releases include Purity and Danger on Animal Fact Records in 2007 and Bodyhammer on Proot Records and Selva Elletrica in 2008. He also appears on the 2008 Saturator Compilation and the 2009 compilation Greatest it on Cock Rock Disco, Proot and Ego Twister.
