Karin Park

Karin Park is a Swedish-Norwegian singer-songwriter from Leksand Municipality, Sweden. Born in 1978, she works in electronic, indie pop and synth-pop, with a sound that combines electronic pop, synth-pop and darker industrial influences.

Park gains recognition in Scandinavia, where she wins two Norwegian Grammy awards. She also supports Azari & III and SBTRKT on their European tour dates. Her music receives specialist radio support from Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Rob da Bank and Gilles Peterson.

Music and collaborations

Her track “Restless” is described as a dark, hook-driven electro-pop song with an 1980s experimental pop feel. An album recorded with producers Barry Barnett and Christoffer Berg, who also works with Fever Ray and The Knife, explores themes of spirituality, sexuality, power, love and hate.

Live performance

Park performs with keys and analogue synthesizers, and also uses a keytar on stage. Her brother David Park plays drums in her live setup. Her vocal range spans pop and opera, and her performances are marked by a strong electronic and theatrical presence.

Background

She grows up in a remote Swedish town and has a deeply religious upbringing. She also spends three years at a Japanese missionary school, an experience that shapes the perspective expressed in her songs.
