Karen Matheson

Karen Matheson is a Scottish folk singer from the United Kingdom. She grows up in Taynuilt in Argyll, and she is best known as the lead singer of Capercaillie, where her husband Donald Shaw also sings with her.

She is noted for her clear vocals and for becoming the first artist to have a hit in Gaelic, having learned the language as an adult. Her solo discography includes The Dreaming Sea (1996), Time to Fall (2002) and Downriver (2005).

Matheson receives an OBE in the 2006 New Year’s honours list.
