Kaelan Mikla

Kaelan Mikla is a three-piece group from Reykjavík, Iceland, formed in 2013 after winning first place in a poetry slam held by the city library. The band consists of Laufey Soffía, Margrét Rósa and Sólveig Matthildur. Its work sits across dark wave, new wave, poetry, post-punk and punk, and it is also associated with coldwave and goth.

The group develops a dark, melancholic sound built largely from heavy bass, drums and screams, with softer melodic synth parts appearing in some songs. Its members perform their own poetry, and the lyrics focus on inner confusion. The band also uses performance art in its live shows and has toured Europe as well as appearing at multiple festivals.
