Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is the soundtrack album for the Hindi film of the same name, with music composed by the duo Jatin-Lalit. The film is Karan Johar’s second feature, following Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

Film and cast

The film features Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bhaduri, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan, with Rani Mukerji in a guest appearance. It becomes one of the best-known Bollywood film soundtracks through its association with this ensemble cast and a major family drama release.

Reception and box office

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is the highest-grossing Indian film overseas. It reaches third place at the British box office within two weeks of release and stays there for more than three weeks. It also becomes the highest-grossing Indian film until the release of Devdas in 2002, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

International release

The film is the first Bollywood feature to receive a theatrical release in Germany, with German subtitles and also a dubbed version.
