K-Passa

K-Passa is a folk rock group from Cheddar and Bristol, active since 1988. The band forms around Simon Edwards, whose voice, songs and accordion playing remain central to its sound. The group has several line-up changes over the years and is associated with a lively West Country following.

Style and sound

The band plays Cajun-influenced folk rock with elements of folk, dub and reggae. Its music is described as energetic and centred on squeeze-box-driven arrangements and live performance. K-Passa is also associated with spontaneous dancing and a noisy, crowd-raising style.

Career

Formed in 1988, K-Passa gains local recognition that leads to a main-stage appearance at Glastonbury in 1992. The group later reforms with a new rhythm section while keeping Edwards at the core. Its grassroots response builds an audience across Bristol, the UK and Europe, and it remains known as a live folk-based act in Bristol.

Recordings

The band’s discography includes the live cassette Two Back From The Front, which appears in 1992 on Own Label and showcases its blend of styles. Later releases are After The Headrush (1994) on Que-P, Life On The Plains (1995) on Que-P, and Born Again (2001) on Que-P.

Members

Simon Edwards performs vocals and squeezebox. Other members listed are madfiddler on electric violin, Andy Burrows on guitar, Bex on backing vocals and flute, Des Rogers on bass, and Greg White on drums.
