Junkyard Drive
Junkyard Drive is a Danish hard rock and sleaze rock group active since 2014. The band is based in Denmark and is made up of Benjamin Høyer Filstrup, Claus Munch Aagaard Hansen, Kristian Johansen, Oliver Hartmann Jakobsen, Kristoffer Kristensen and Mikkel Nelausen Schøder Hansen.
Style and reputation
The group plays old-school rock and roll with a strong 1980s influence, built around soaring riffs and a classic rock sound. It is described as a particularly energetic live band in Denmark, with a stage image centred on black leather jackets and a direct, loud performance style. Its music is associated with the kind of hard-edged rock attitude often linked to sleaze rock.
Career
Since forming in 2014, Junkyard Drive has toured widely across Northern Europe, including the Baltic nations. The band also tours in the United States and Mexico. It appears at major festivals and has played the Sweden Rock Festival.
The group releases its debut album Sin & Tonic in 2017. The album is recorded at Medley Studios with producer Søren Andersen, who also works with Glenn Hughes, The Dead Daisies and Mike Tramp. Its first single, “Geordie”, is based on an old folk song from northern England and receives extensive radio play in Denmark and abroad.
Junkyard Drive follows with Black Coffee, recorded at Medley Studios and planned as the band’s second album. The group later releases Electric Love in 2022, and then prepares Look At Me Now, described as its fourth album. That release includes ten rock tracks and features a revised line-up with new guitarists Oliver Hartmann and Kristoffer Kristensen. Kristian Johansen says the writing process for the material leads the band to more personal lyrics and a broader sound, while also affecting internal relationships within the group.
