Junior Jack

Junior Jack is the house music project of Vito Lucente, a DJ and producer born in 1971 in Rutigliano, Belgium. He is based in Belgium and works in house, dance and electronica.

Career

Lucente begins using the name Mr. Jack in 1995 after moving away from Eurodance, and the name later develops into Junior Jack. Under this identity, he builds a catalogue of club-oriented house tracks and enters the UK Top 40 with several singles.

His best-known tracks include “My Feeling”, “Thrill Me (Such A Thrill)”, “E Samba”, “Stupidisco” and “Da Hype”. “Da Hype” features vocals by Robert Smith of The Cure and uses a sample from Bobby Orlando’s “I’m So Hot For You”. “My Feeling” is built around a vocal sample from “Saturday Love” by Alexander O’Neal and Cherrelle, while “Stupidisco” and its later reworking, “Dare Me (Stupidisco)”, use material associated with The Pointer Sisters’ “Dare Me”.

“Dare Me (Stupidisco)” appears in a 2007 re-release with new vocals from Shena and reaches No. 20 in the UK Singles Chart. “E Samba” becomes one of the biggest club hits of 2003.

Albums and label work

Junior Jack releases the album Trust It on PIAS Recordings. The project also issues Music And You under the name Room 5, also on PIAS Recordings. His discography is described as limited to these two records.

He also records and works as Room 5 with disco artist Oliver Cheatham, and the pair reach No. 1 in the UK and the European Dance Charts with “Make Luv”, a remake of Cheatham’s “(Get Down) Saturday Night”.

Remixes and collaborations

As a remixer, Junior Jack reworks material for Whitney Houston, Moby, Bob Sinclar and Utada. His collaboration with Robert Smith on “Da Hype” is one of the project’s most noted cross-genre pairings.
