Juliet Roberts

Juliet Roberts is a British singer from London, working across jazz, soul, rock, pop and house music. She records and performs both as a solo artist and with other acts, and her career spans mainstream pop and dance material as well as more traditional jazz singing.

Career

She performs and records with the jazz ensemble Working Week and is also associated with Funk Masters. Alongside that group work, she provides backing session vocals for many other artists and appears on British television’s Rock School, where she teaches basic vocal performance to teenage viewers.

As a solo artist, Roberts often works with producer, mixer and musical figure Danny D. Poku, known as Dancin’ Danny D., and her recordings range from jazz interpretation to contemporary R&B, hip-hop-influenced Brit-pop and house.

Recordings and style

Her best-known house track is “Caught Up in the Middle”, which becomes a dance chart hit through a series of gospel-tinged remixes in 1994. Her wider catalogue reflects the mix of jazz and dance styles that define much of her work, while also showing her background in soul and British rock and pop.

Roberts is also described as part of the group of behind-the-scenes singers who regularly support other artists while occasionally achieving success under her own name.
