Julie Murphy

Julie Murphy is a singer associated with two different folk acts: an American singer who fronts Virginia contemporary folk group Eddie From Ohio, and a British singer who fronts Welsh neo-traditional folk group Fernhill.

American singer

Raised in a musically talented family in northern Virginia, Julie Murphy Wells sings from childhood and becomes a member of Eddie From Ohio when she and three friends found the group in 1991. Her voice is described as a clear, strong feature of the band’s sound. Alongside her work with the group, she releases two solo albums in the first half of the 1990s: No Rules, which combines her own songs with cover versions, and Sophisticated Lady, which collects jazz standards.

Welsh singer

Julie Murphy also appears as the singer with Fernhill. In addition to that role, she releases solo material under her own name, including Black Mountains Revisited, which presents interpretations of traditional songs alongside songs with traditional influence, and The Lilac Tree, which features more personal original songs. She also records an album with guitarist Dylan Fowler, Ffawd, built around traditional Welsh songs. Her 2012 album A Quiet House is available from her website.
