Jules Rendell

Jules Rendell is a Birmingham-born, London-based singer, pianist, cellist and multi-instrumentalist whose work sits between jazz, soul and pop. Her voice is described as having a Minnie Riperton-like quality, and her writing is shaped by a poetic, soulful approach to lyrics.

Early life and training

Rendell studies vocals at the Royal Northern College of Music before starting her professional career. She later makes London her home after growing up in Birmingham.

Recording work

She writes and arranges all of the tracks on The Lotus Bloom EP. The EP is produced by Goz-i-am, who has worked with Emeli Sandé, Gloria Gaynor, Candi Staton and Beverley Knight. Rendell is joined on the record by a line-up of musicians including Emily Holligan on vocals, Rob Barron on keys, Lizzie Deane, Jo Phillpotts on bass and Feranmi Oguns on drums.

Collaborations and live performances

As a singer, Rendell builds a broad list of credits. She performs with Gorillaz at Manchester Opera House as part of the Manchester International Festival, and also backs artists including Keane, Beverley Knight and Aled Jones. She also lends vocals to a Nicole Scherzinger single.

Her live appearances include O2 Islington, XOYO, Manchester Academy and The Secret Garden Party, as well as jazz venues such as Boisdale, The Pheasantry and Matt and Fred’s in Manchester. She is also associated with performances at Ronnie Scott’s and a launch event for The Lotus Bloom EP at London’s Hippodrome Casino.
