Jukebox Monkey is a four-piece heavy rock group from England, formed in 2010 in Kent. The band plays a mix of stoner rock, alt metal, grunge, hard rock and southern-influenced heavy rock, with a sound built around low-end riffs, groove-led rhythms, gritty vocals and strong percussion.

Style and development

The group is described as combining the broad, heavy sound of desert rock with the sludgier groove of southern metal. Their live performances build a reputation for a forceful sound and an energetic, party-oriented stage approach. Their material is rooted in foot-stomping, riff-driven heavy rock with a progressive edge.

Releases and activity

By 2015, Jukebox Monkey has released three EPs. Their 2015 EP Vs Time consists of five tracks and is issued through Bandcamp, iTunes and Spotify. The release includes the single Dead Wait, for which the band also produces a promotional video. In 2016, the group returns to the studio to record its debut album with Ian Sadler of OHHMS.

Reception and coverage

Vs Time receives support from online metal press and radio, including TBFM and Heavy Planet’s Band of the Day. The Dead Wait video also appears on Scuzz TV. Bloodstock Festival’s Simon Hall describes the band’s sound as heavy, low-end stoner metal in the vein of Kyuss and Five Horse Johnson.
